It is part of the Plastic Free Communities scheme by Surfers Against Sewage. So much washes up on our shores that it is hard to keep up.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Often the effort only reaches the popular places on the coast, and the easy to get to places.  We try and be a bit more adventurous, and are always very needy of help on our beach cleans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Borrow Beach Cleaning Equipment.<\/strong> We will lend beach cleaning equipment to any organisation or individual on Mull free of charge. We have 20 sturdy litter pickers, 20 pairs of gloves, and 5 handy-hoop bag openers. If you have a beach clean and would like to borrow some equipment then contact Marie Fox on mfox62@gmail.com<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"88\" class=\"wp-image-542\" style=\"width: 150px;\" src=\"https:\/\/mullottergroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/MCSlogo.png\" alt=\"Marine Conservation Society Logo\"><strong>Marine Conservation Society.<\/strong> We also seek to encourage participation in the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mcsuk.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Marine Conservation Society&#8217;s<\/a> data gathering programmes (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mcsuk.org\/beachwatch\/\" target=\"_blank\">Beach Watch<\/a>, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mcsuk.org\/beachwatch\/greatbritishbeachclean\" target=\"_blank\">Great British Beach Clean<\/a>). This is important work which provides evidence to drive change &#8211; for example the Scottish government is now introducing a deposit return system for plastic bottles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tell us what you already do.<\/strong> Do you already carry out beach cleans? Great! Carry on the good work and just let us know which stretches of shore line you look after. Do let us know if you need any more help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Adopt a beach!<\/strong> Look after a small stretch of shore in your local area just once or twice a year. You can do this on your own or organise your own beach cleans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tell us about beach litter.<\/strong> Can you let us know where the marine litter hotspots are? Perhaps you know an area that needs cleared but you can\u2019t tackle it on your own. We can help organise beach cleans. It maybe in an out of the way spot, but even if very few people see the litter it is still important that it is removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Take a bag with you.<\/strong> Even if you can\u2019t get involved in beach cleans, consider taking a bag with you on your walks or drives around Mull and if you see some litter take it home with you \u2013 every little helps.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Plastic Free Mull is a new initiative to reduce the use of plastic on our island.
